Francis Rugumayo – Frank

About

Francis was born in 1985 in the village of Kibuye, located in Uganda’s Kyegegwa District. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for nature and adventure. In his free time, Francis enjoys playing football, reading, and watching movies.

He completed his primary education at Kibuye Primary School and later attended Humura Secondary School for both O and A Levels. Passionate about mechanics, Francis earned a Certificate in Driving and Mechanics from Uganda Technical College, Kichwamba, followed by hands-on training at Kasasa’s Garage in Katwe, Kampala.

Francis began his journey with Wild Frontiers in 2007, initially working as a cleaner and gardener. His dedication and passion soon earned him a role with the mobile camping team, where he was responsible for setting up camps and attending to guests. His hard work and enthusiasm led to a promotion as Mobile Camping Manager, where he began to gain exposure to Uganda’s wildlife and landscapes.

In 2013, Francis took a break to pursue self-employment as a long-distance truck driver, a role that sharpened his road skills and expanded his knowledge of the country. He rejoined Wild Frontiers in 2019 as an office messenger and delivery driver servicing camps in southwestern Uganda. This role reignited his passion for wildlife, birdwatching, and cultural tourism.

Inspired to pursue guiding more formally, Francis underwent further training in southwestern Uganda and earned certifications in Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Firefighting. He is now a fully trained safari driver guide, leading guests through Uganda’s stunning national parks, including Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for gorilla trekking adventures.

Francis is known for his reliability, friendly demeanour, and growing knowledge of Uganda’s flora, fauna, and cultures. He takes great pride in sharing his country’s beauty with visitors from around the world.
